How Men Lose Hair

Receding Hairline – The Bane of Men Everywhere!

Every man loses hair differently. Some might see lose strands in their teens and start seeing bald spots as they grow older. Others can experience it as late as their 50s and perhaps lose a significant amount as they age. If an individual experiences hair loss at a younger age, he can experience a lot more as the years go by.

Even though there are several scales that can measure male pattern baldness, they are not precise. However, they can help physicians determine the extent of the hair loss and thus recommend appropriate treatments or whether a hair transplant might be necessary.

The Hamilton-Norwood Scale

As the name implies, the Hamilton Norwood scale was created by Dr. James Hamilton. However, after Dr. O’Tar Norwood made some adjustments to it in the ‘70s, it is now commonly referred to as the Norwood scale and is used to measure degrees of baldness. However it is popularly used to determine bald patterns in men suffering from hair loss.

Family History

One of the ways to determine the extent of male pattern baldness, is by looking at a person’s family history, particularly the men. These include fathers, sons, grandfathers, uncles etc and from both sides of the family. If the older men in the family are bald or balding, then it might be time to visit a dermatologist to delay or curb yours. You might not be able to stop it from happening, but at least you can take measures to waylay it.

Researching options such as a hair transplant surgery or non-invasive hair growth supplements is always a good idea and will help you prepare for what you might face. However, before taking any medication, always consult with a trained physician to ensure you make the best decision possible.
